Areas of Expertise
Gottman Method Couples Therapy
At Brave Voices Counseling, the Gottman Method Couples Therapy approach is used when helping couples, which is aimed at "disarming conflicting verbal communication; increasing intimacy, respect, and affection; removing barriers that create a feeling of stagnancy; and creating a heightened sense of empathy and understanding within the context of the relationship." https://www.gottman.com
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Shani Clement specializes in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), a goal-oriented therapeutic approach aimed at helping clients identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors. Through CBT, clients can learn effective strategies to manage stress, anxiety, and other mental health concerns.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
Shani Clement was trained in a psychotherapy approach called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which "enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences." EMDR therapy "facilitates the accessing of the traumatic memory network, so that information processing is enhanced, with new associations forged between a traumatic memory and more adaptive memories or information. These new associations are thought to result in complete information processing, new learning, elimination of emotional distress, and development of cognitive insights." https://www.emdr.com/what-is-emdr/
